Hello everyone! I am Kaori Kasuga, a student at Oberlin University. Including this article, I would like to write articles on medical care in China and Japan to all of you over the next five times. In this commemorative first article, I would like to write about "Comparison of the Chinese and Japanese healthcare systems", taking into account specific examples.in Japan, while in China, people must pay all medical expenses if they receive treatment outside the area as they registered, coverage varies depending on the type of medical insurance and the rank of the hospital, etc.For example, if a person in his or her 30s who is currently working receives medical treatment in Japan or China, the co-payment is a flat 30% in Japan (with a co-payment limit if the high-cost treatment system is applied), whereas in China (Beijing Urban Workers' Basic Medical Insurance), the co-payment is 1,800 yuan (about 37,000 yen), as medical expenses up to 1,800 yuan are fully co-paid, while medical expenses between 1,800 and 20,000 yuan are either 10% or 30% co-paid depending on the hospital rank and the situation. For a detailed explanation of the co-payment of medical expenses in Japan and China, please take a look at the diagram below. You can also find some other differences between the two countries. The Chinese and Japanese healthcare systems have many differences!?First, in comparing the Chinese and Japanese healthcare systems, let's take a look at the healthcare insurance systems of the two countries.China's public medical insurance system is divided into two main types: Basic Medical Insurance for Urban Workers, which is compulsory for those who are working and registered in urban areas (urban household registration). The other is the optional Basic Medical Insurance for Urban and Rural Residents, it covers non-workers who are registered in urban areas or who are registered outside the cities (rural households). As there are two separate medical insurance systems, there are of course differences between them in terms of coverage and co-payment of medical costs.Compared to Japan, Japan's public medical insurance is compulsory for all citizens, which makes a big difference in terms of the coexistence of voluntary and compulsory enrolment in China. In addition, while in Japan the co-payment ratio is determined according to age and employment status uniformly 11 Kaori Kasuga J.F.OberlinComparison of Chinese and Japanese healthcare systems
