says are drugs that are used when no other treatment is successful. If no effective action is taken, we might have another worldwide pandemic like COVID-19. In fact, the death from AMR-related infections is growing rapidly, and is predicted to be ranked in 1st by the time we, “generation Z people”, reach the life expectancy.problem is accelerated by the misuse and overuse of antibiotics. All the members of WHO, including Japan and Hungary, were required to decide on a national plan against it.report on the current situation of AMR in Hungary. The following picture is an example of the report.AMRAs a member of G7, Japan is in a position to play a leading role in the combat against AMR not only domestically, but also globally, especially in the Asian region. Since Japan is the only Asian country in G7, Japan is required to strengthen its leadership for global policies on AMR.The other problem arising is that further promotion and strengthening of efforts in elderly care facilities are needed. However, the current infection control measures mainly target medical institutions. As Japan has been ranked top in the population of elderly people, action needs to be taken as soon as possible. Education of AMR to care workers is another barrier to be broken.Having said that, this problem cannot simply be solved, because there are many other issues behind it. I think that most of the “misuse” or “overuse” cases are brought by patients who are prescribed antimicrobials. I’m sure you have an experience where you stop taking antibiotics just because the symptoms have disappeared. However, bacteria can still be alive inside the body. And by repeating misuse, AMR gradually develops.10
