Regular sauna use is associated with a lower risk of fatal cardiovascular diseases and improved heart function by increasing cardiac output and decreasing blood pressure during sessions. Studies suggest that the heat-induced stress and subsequent cooling periods may train the cardiovascular system, much like moderate physical exercise.(2)Respiratory and Musculoskeletal Advantages:The heat from saunas can also benefit the respiratorysystem, helping alleviate symptoms of diseases like asthma and chronic bronchitis by relaxing bronchial muscles and improving lung capacity. For the musculoskeletal system, sauna use aids in pain relief from conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, possibly due to the endorphin release triggered by the heat stress.(3)Mental Health and Stress Reduction:Sauna sessions contribute to stress reduction andmental well-being. From my personal experience, I did sauna sessions 3-4 times a week during the most stressful exam period I’ve ever had in my life, which helped me a lot in my mental health. I’d say Sauna bathing is as effective as exercise to help maintain your mental health.(4)Skin Health and Detoxification:While the concept of detoxification through sweatingis debated, saunas undoubtedly promote skin health 12by increasing blood circulation, which enhances the nourishment of skin tissues. This process helps in the reduction of acne and other skin ailments by flushing out toxins through sweat.(5)Immune System Boost:The heat stress from a sauna session is known tostimulate the immune system, enhancing its ability to combat diseases and infections.(6)Longevity:Emerging research suggests that regular sauna usemight correlate with increased lifespan, possibly due to the cumulative beneficial effects on cardiovascular health, stress levels, and overall disease prevention.
