Midori Pederson Neoma Business SchoolIntroduction Hello everyone. I’ m writing to you again from France, following up from last month. The summer sun has been strong, and I imagine many of you have been spending more time indoors. I’ ve noticed that I spend more and more time inside having tea or watching TV with my host family. In France, the big topic right now is the elections. Following the dissolution of parliament by President Macron, this election has yielded results significantly different from the first round, prompting widespread surprise. And currently, the most talked-about topic is the Paris Olympics. Amid concerns about insufficient accessibility of public transportation and worries about security around the Seine River, facilities are beginning to be prepared, and the torch relay is drawing large crowds, showing a lot of excitement. It’ s the first time in 100 years for Paris to host the Olympics. It’s exciting to think about what stories await. Now, with the Olympics coming up soon (※as of late July 2024), I would like to focus on education and address the issue of sports and exercise habits. Is the physical fitness level declining? First, let’s look at recent trends in exercise habits and physical fitness tests. Japan: According to a survey compiled by the Japan Sports Agency in 2021, the overall physical fitness scores of elementary and middle school students appear to be declining regardless of gender. Males under 19 years old have shown particularly significant decreases, with Professor Hisashi Naito from Juntendo University speculating that this could be due to restrictions on activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, given the higher proportion of boys involved in sports clubs. Other factors include reduced physical education classes during the pandemic and increased screen time.Sports and Exercise HabitsFRANCE
