Denmark’s welfare system is built on a relationship of trust with its citizens. Furthermore, this robust welfare system is likely a key reason for the high level of national well-being. However, while living in Denmark, I came to realize that the country’s healthcare system is not perfect. Although medical care is free in Denmark, it takes time to get an appointment. While it is relatively easy to see a general practitioner, seeing a specialist—such as an ENT doctor or an ophthalmologist—can sometimes require a wait of about a month. Compared to the Japanese system, where you can see your preferred doctor without an appointment, I feel there are some inconveniences.
